Thomas ‘Dutch’ John Vanderhorst

Feb. 14, 1957 – Oct. 5, 2004

A memorial service was held Oct. 7 at St. Malachy Catholic Church for Thomas 
Vanderhorst, who passed away suddenly on Oct. 5.

Tom was born on Feb.14, 1957, in Culver City to Pauline and George 
Vanderhorst. At an early age, he moved with his family to Buena Park, where he 
graduated from Savanna High School in 1976. 

Tom started his career as a heavy diesel mechanic with Bleckert’s Diesel 
Repair in Anaheim.

In 1984, he married Joyce Ann Jacobs and in 1988 they moved to Cornville and 
Flagstaff, Ariz. In 2001, they moved to Bear Valley Springs to be closer to 
family. 

Tom was always there to lend a helping hand to his family, friends and even 
strangers. He loved spending time with his wife, children, family and friends.

In one last gesture of kindness, Tom donated his organs to enhance the lives 
of others.

Tom is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Nic; daughter, Tina; parents, Pauline 
and George; brothers, Gary and Bruce; his special twin sister, Tina; and his 
beloved cats, Honey and Baxter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tehachapi Humane Society.
