Dorothea was born March 22, 1924 in Lansdown, Pa., to Charles and Elizabeth Steel. She had one sister, Betty, and three brothers, Charles, John and Ed. Dorothea lived across the street from Lansdown High School where she attended and graduated. The family enjoyed the 4th of July each year at the family home and watched fireworks at the high school. Dorothea was baptized and confirmed Catholic and remained faithful to the Catholic beliefs. She married Theodore Wallace Johnson and had three children, Bill, Richard and Peggy. Her husband died in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Jan. 8, 1975. Dorothea remained faithful to him the rest of her life. Dorothea lived most of the time with or near Bill and Peggy, helping them raise their children. Due to health reasons, she moved to California to live with Richard and his family. She remained in Tehachapi for about 11 years until Oct. 2, when she passed away due to age-related illness. Dorothea loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She always put their needs ahead of her own. She cared for them despite the many challenges they all gave her. She was called Nana by the West Coast grandkids, Michelle, Carrie, Matt, Gary and Melanie; and great-grandkids Alan-Michael, Sky and Justin; MomMom by the East Coast grandkids, Richard, Crystal, Billy, Shawn and Dawn; and great- grandkids Jordan and Nathaniel. Dorothea was dearly loved and will be missed by her family. Father Roger Le Duc officiated at the service. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
