Ted was born May 2, 1924 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Theodore and Susan Porwoll. Upon his fathers death in 1927, he and his mother moved to Los Angeles where he attended military School. Ted served his country in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. After he was discharged from the military in 1944, he worked for Bekins Moving and Storage until his retirement 32 years later. He and his wife, Norma, raised their three children in North Hollywood before moving to Lake Tahoe in 1969. Although they moved to Bakersfield in 1984, they continued spending their summers at the lake where Ted loved to fish, hunt and simply enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Two weeks ago, Ted returned to Lake Tahoe to mackinaw fish with his son, Ted, Jr. and grandsons. No one realized that it would be his last visit to his beloved lake. Ted will be forever remembered for his quick wit and humor. We will miss hearing his tales about serving in the Pacific Islands, fishing, raising his family, playing baseball Saturday mornings in the corner dirt field with his children, and going to the ocean early Sunday mornings to teach his children to surf. His family meant the world to him. In February, Teds wife, Norma, passed away. They had been married 50 years. He is also preceded in death by his son, David, and grandsons, Ron and Jon Monogeau. He is survived by his daughter, Derba Welch, and husband Bill; son Ted Porwoll, Jr. and wife Debbie; 9 grandchildren-Don, Tom, Jeff, Ted, III, Alyson, Mitchell and Amy, Kendra and Grady; and his dachshund, Buddy. Ted will be deeply missed, but we now envision him fishing on the banks of the River of life with Norma at his side. Hes not gone forever; hes gone fishing.
