She started school when she was 2 years old at John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles, followed by preschool for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at McKinley School. At that time only oral language was taught, so she attended California School for the Deaf in Berkeley where she graduated with honors. She attended Gallaudett University in Washington, D.C. and graduated with a degree in Biology. She was also active in their Deaf Theater and performed in two plays and helped with the costumes. Nancy worked with her special and dear friend, Ann Jones, who was a teacher for deaf students. She also helped tutor deaf students and hearing students who wanted to learn sign language. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, John Rojas. She is survived by her mother, Frances Rojas; brother, John and wife, Marietjie; sisters, Linda and husband, Bill Thomas, Anita Rojas, Patti and husband, Mike Madden, Nina and husband, Bob Millar; aunts and uncles, Capt. Nancy and her family were appreciative for the dedicated, and exceptionally wonderful care given to her by Dr. Nancy McNamara and dearest friend Faye Wilkie. She was a member of the American Legion Aux. 282, NAD, TDI, CSUB and Gallaudett Alumnae. She will be remembered by the Gift of Life and all those lives she touched. We are comforted knowing she is reunited with her father in Heaven. There will be a scholarship fund set at Bakersfield College for a student studying to be a teacher or interpreter for the Deaf.
