Kevin was born on May 21, 1959, in Ridgecrest to Ed and Marlene Johnson. He attended Ridgecrest schools, graduating from Mesquite High School. After graduating, he served in the United States Air Force. He married his wife of 26 years, Rebecca Rose Collinsi, on April 9, 1977. They lived in Tehachapi where Kevin was employed as a correctional officer at the California Correctional Institution for 23 years, recently assigned to the Unit 1 facility as sergeant. He was highly respected by his fellow peace officers, known for his "can do attitude" and always willing to get the job done. Kevin was serving as vice president of the local chapter of the California Correctional Supervisors Organization. The most important thing to Kevin was his family, whom he loved and cherished. He had a true love for the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Rose Johnson of Ridgecrest; sons, Brandon Johnson and wife Brandallynn of Ridgecrest and Bradley Johnson of Atascadero; daughter, Sandra Johnson of Ridgecrest; parents, Ed and Marlene Johnson of Ridgecrest; grandchildren, Isaiah Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Kambralynn Johnson and Serah Bashum; grandmothers, Jessie Doyle of Modesto and Rose Ford of Tehachapi; sisters, Starr Hutchinson and husband Wayne of Carson City, Nev., and Polly Pearl and husband Ron of Ridgecrest; brother, Damon Johnson and wife Cindy of Richland, Wash.; as well as many other family members and friends. Kevin was a very caring man who will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew him. Reverend Andrew Walker officiated at the service.
