Horton Services: Friday, Nov. 5, 12:30 p.m. Thelma H. Horton was born in Summers, Arkansas to Alfred and Oda Campbell on June 2, 1922 and passed away on November 1, 2004 in Bakersfield, CA. She and her husband, Mitchell moved to Porterville in 1938 where she raised her children and worked in food service for Vandalia, Bartlett and Monache schools. While living in Porterville, Thelma was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, the Porterville Chapter of TOPS and the Porterville Gleaning Seniors. She moved to Tehachapi in 2000 to be close to her son, Joe. In Tehachapi, she was a member of Living Word Ministries. Thelma is survived by sons, David Orton and wife, Dorothy, Joe Orton and wife, Marietta all of Tehachapi, CA, Allan Orton and wife, Lillian of LaPine, OR; daughter, Helen Chambers and husband, Bill of Canton, GA; brothers, Kenneth Campbell of Houston, TX, Johnnie Campbell of Chester, CA; sisters, Mary Munar, Betty Smith, Hazel Whilhite, Alice Isaacson and Pat Campbell all of Gridley, CA; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Oda Orton; her husband, Mitchell Horton; sons, Olen Orton and Billy Orton; brothers, Carl Campbell and Forrest Campbell; and sister, Mildred Hiesler. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2004, at Myers Chapel in Porterville. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Porterville on Friday, November 5, 2004.
