Marcella was born on May 12, 1931, in Columbus, Ohio to James and Miriam Everhart. On July 29, 1949, in Newport, Ky., she married Donald Earl Whiteis and they moved to California. Marcella was employed by San Fernando Valley Christian School and then as a bookkeeper for North Hollywood Speedometer and Clock Company for 20 years. She and her husband retired to Tehachapi in 1991. Marcella enjoyed sewing, especially for her children when they were young. She loved cats and had cat figurines placed all around her home. As a pastime, she played cards with her friends, earning the nickname "Card Shark.” Marcella loved to cook, her favorite dish being oven fried chicken. She liked Dodgers baseball and watching her favorite "soaps" and game shows on television. She was a member of the Mountain Bible Church. Shortly after her husband passed away in 2002, Marcella moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. to live with her son Don. Marcella was a loving wife and mother who was loved by so many. She will always be in their hearts and thoughts. Marcella is survived by her sons, Donald M. Whiteis of Colorado Springs, Colo., and David K. Whiteis of Granada Hills; daughters, Laura Barker of Tehachapi, and Carol L. Bustos and husband Anthony, of Pueblo, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Nixon and husband George of Oakland; and niece, Julie Byrd and husband Steve of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Whiteis, on July 16, 2002. Dr. Marvin Slifer officiated at the service. Interment followed at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside.
