Hamaker Sr. March 25, 1922 Nov. 2, 2004 Services: Sat., Nov. 6, 1 p.m. Viewing will be held Friday 1-6 p.m. at Kern River Family Mortuary Chapel, 1900 N. Chester. Services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 2215 Planz Rd., Bakersfield for Marlin Hamaker, 82, who passed away November 2, 2004. Services will be officiated by Frank Brancato. Marlin was born in Arkansas and moved to the Bakersfield area in 1938. Marlin was retired from the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. A member of the Church of Christ since April 1962. Marlin leaves behind his wife, Mildred (Mickie) of 48 years; three children, Alan Young-Hamaker, Jill Avila and Brent Hamaker all of Bakersfield; six grandchildren, Melissa and Courtney Young, Joel Hamaker, Brandon, Christian and Cameron Avila; beloved sister, Betty Riddle of Moreno Valley, CA; a very special niece, Phyllis Hill of Sunnyvale, CA and a number of nieces and nephews. Mickie was the love of his life. He made sure everybody knew. Alan was such a joy to him, his little doodle, so precious in his eyes. Jill was his pretty little princess, the apple of his eye. Brent was his special blessing, a tower of spiritual strength. They had many Bible studies and Church discussions. He truly adored his grandchildren. He was a fantastic Papa. He leaves also a most endured and respected family friend, Melody Smith who was like a loving daughter, she assisted in his care. Also Jackie Graham of Cottage Grove, OR, a valued sister in Christ. Paul and Wilma Nichols of Kansas City, Kansas, who brought him to the gospel and baptism. A neighborhood of precious friends, a brotherhood of wonderful Christians. Marlin treasured gospel preaching and gospel singing. Marlin and Mickie made many memorable trips in their motor home. Marlin enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking and fishing. Marlin will be truly missed. There will be a burial service Monday, November 8, 2004, 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd.
