Bob came to Bakersfield when he was 14 years of age, graduating from Bakersfield High School, where he played football along with such notables and friends as Bob Karpe and Frank Gifford. He also graduated from Bakersfield College and attended Fresno State. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict as an attache to the Admiral of the Pacific Fleet. Bob retired from Texaco following over 30 years of employment. Bob, living his life to the fullest, was an avid Elk hunter, with his great love for hunting, and being the outdoors man that he was, you could often find him in Wyoming hunting. He owned the Kern Delta Hunting Club, was a Judge for the National Field Dog trials, and owned and trained many champion hunting dogs. He was a member of the German Shorthair Pointer Clubs of California, American Kennel Clubs, and was a member of the Kern County Sheriffs Mounted Posse from 1993 through 1999. Bob had 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildrn. Bob passed away Tuesday, November 9th, following a long illness. The family would like to thank medical doctors N. Devasea, Ramon Vera, and M. Ashrah for their devoted care. He is survived by Lorene (Pilgrim) Oglesby, his loving wife of 54 years; sons, Wayne (grandsons, Denny and Ronnie), Mark and wife, Stacey (grandchildren, Jerycha, Daryl, Markie, Amber and Tammy); daughters, Christine Oglesby Hinkle and husband, Robert (granddaughter, Aimee), and Julie Oglesby Hay (grandchildren, Brady and Brooke); brothers, John Oglesby (Naydene), and Charles Oglesby; sisters, Eva Pendley, Willie Etta Snydal (Richard); and Kathleen Evans (Joe). On Saturday, November 13th, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bob will be laid to rest. At 12:15 p.m. there will be private graveside service followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary for family and friends who wish to pay their respects.
