Evans-Destefani Jan. 21, 1943 - Nov. 9, 2004 Services: Sat., Nov. 13, 9:30 a.m. Rosary will be recited followed by celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Lucia D. Evans-Destefani, 61, who tragically passed away November 9, 2004, in an automobile accident. Father Dan Coyle will officiate with interment following at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery. Lou was born January 21, 1943, in Bakersfield. She had been employed 25 years as a bookkeeper by the Kern Delta Water Co. and for the past five years by McKittrick Ranch. Lucia was an active member of Sacred Heart Church where she taught both R.C.I.A. and C.C.D. classes, was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Altar Society. She was also a volunteer for many years at Kern Medical Center and was an avid hockey fan. Last Friday, November 5, 2004, at 6:30 p.m. she was married to her longtime friend and love, Melvin Destefani, in a beautiful wedding at Sacred Heart Church. She died Tuesday, November 5, 2004, at 6:30 p.m. near her new home with Melvin. Survivors include her husband of four days, Melvin; son, Christopher Croson and wife, Terri; nieces, Katie Caudle and husband, Timothy, Donna George and husband, Tony; nephew, Maxx Garris and wife, Jodi; cousin, Stephen Ivy and wife, Georgia; niece, Courtney Evans; her godfather, Newell Powers; and Melvins children, Alan Destefani and wife, Debbie, and Janel Destefani and fiancé, Dennis Bigby. Lucia was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Croson; her parents, Roland and Lucia Evans; and her cousin, Madeline McGinley. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Sacred Heart Building Fund or to a charity of your choice. No visitation is scheduled.
