Jose Luis Gutierrez
Nov. 2, 1928 - Nov. 11, 2004

Mass of the Christian Burial will be said Monday, November 15, at 9:30 a.m., 
at St. Phillips Church for Jose Luis Gutierrez, age 76, of Bakersfield who 
passed away November 11, in Bakersfield. Holy Rosary will be recited preceding 
the Mass. Msgr. Ronald Swett will officiate the services and interment will 
follow at Greenlawn Cemetery Southwest. Serving as casketbearers are Miguel 
Lusarreta, Martin Etchemendy, Paco Iturriria, Jose Recondo, Felix Lesaca and 
Alberto Blanco. 

Mr. Gutierrez was born November 2, 1928 in Navajeda, Santander, Spain. He came 
to Californias Imperial Valley in 1954 as a sheepherder and settled in 
Bakersfield in 1955. He worked for Medal Gold Dairy as a milker, then for 
Sundance Cattle Company in the feedlot. He also worked as a meat packer for 
Kern Valley Packing Co. before retiring in 1992. After retirement he was able 
to pursue his love of gardening. He was a member of the Kern County Basque 
Club, Meat Packers Union Local 1036 and St. Phillips Church.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of nearly 52 years, Liana Gutierrez; 
daughters, Maria Belen Jones and Betty Jean Fleming; grandson, Andrew Joseph 
Fleming; Aunt Clara Gutierrez; cousins, Judge Louis Etchevarria and Annie 
Gutierrez.

Donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, 404 
Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Hopson-Anspach Mortuary.
