She was raised in Delano, California by her parents, Francisco and Mickey Caraveo. She was the oldest of 12 children. Frances married Luis Perez-Leon on April 26, 1945. Mrs. Perez-Leon attended Westside School, now known as Fremont School in Delano. During WWII, Frances worked in her fathers gas station and Lopez Market to help support the family. She is considered by some of her younger siblings as a second mother. She worked hard in and outside the home to help her husband raise and support their ten children. She worked hard to provide a stable and loving home to her ten children and in later years some of her grandchildren. Frances was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and a member of Sociedad Edad de Oro of Delano. Frances loved baseball and spent many years watching her children and grandchildren play in various leagues and sports. She was a true fan of her children and grandchildren. She loved to crochet, embroider and bake. She was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers, teapots and dolls. At the age of 58, she learned to decorate and design cakes and found pleasure in baking many cakes for her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 58 years, Luis Perez-Leon and was the loving mother of 10 children: Luis Perez-Leon Jr. of Portland, Oregon, Ernie Perez-Leon of Delano, Angel Perez-Leon of Bakersfield, Adita Ausborn, Vickie Medina, Liz Samora, Marty Guajardo, Celia P. Sapien of Delano, Belia Cuen of Turlock, California and Elena Moore of San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Perez-Leon was the devoted grandparent to 18 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving brothers and sisters, Delores Villegas, Pearl German, Gilbert Caraveo, Everett Caraveo of Delano, Fred Caraveo of Utah, Art and Frank Caraveo, Billie Armas of Bakersfield, and Rick Caraveo of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Miguel and Manual Caraveo and sister, Della Montoya. Frances Perez-Leon was a cancer survivor. She spent most of 2004 in the hospital dealing with numerous health issues and on the evening of November 9th lost her battle. Her family was by her side as she went into her final rest. She was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Viewing will be Sunday, November 14, at Delano Mortuary, 707 Browning Road from 3:00-7:00 p.m. A Rosary and Mass will be held Monday, November 15, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1015 Clinton, in Delano with a reception to follow in the church hall.
