California Avenue, for Jose Montoya Chavez, 90, of Bakersfield, who passed away November 11, 2004, in Bakersfield. Rev. James Catalano and the Kern County Associated Veterans will officiate and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Mr. Chavez was born November 7, 1914 in Tularosa, New Mexico and had been a resident of Kern County for 58 years. He had worked in the Agriculture field for 40 years, lastly as a Farm Foreman for Guimarra Farms. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and assisted with the Gleaners. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII. Jose is survived by his wife, Estela; son, Joe Chavez, both of Bakersfield; grandson, Paul Chavez of Santa Barbara; granddaughter, Arlene Chavez of El Cerrito; nephew, Alex Anderson and his wife, Hope, and family of Bakersfield and numerous other relatives in New Mexico.
