One of twelve children, Lee was born to Edward and Mamie Miller. The family moved from Oklahoma to California in 1930. She attended local schools and graduated from Kern County Union High in 1946. Lee worked for Kern County Sheriffs Department for 30 years where she met and married Investigator, Guy Buck Welch. She also worked as a Mercy Auxiliary volunteer for many years. *Guy preceded her in death in 1973. In 1988, Lee married an old acquaintance, Fred Valentich. She became Mom to his six daughters, grandma to 23 grandchildren and great-grandma to 5 great- grandchildren. They spent their retirement years traveling and enjoying their summers in Pismo Beach. Lee is survived by her husband Fred, sister Margaret Copelan, brother Edward and Jean Miller, children: Cathie and Joe Thompson, Jan and Corky Martinez, Susan and Bert Thomas, Sally and Charlie Wortiska, Nanci and Jim Otts, Patti and Gene Coughlin, Curtis Welch, Davis Welch, Brenda Ruthford, Kay Ferguson, and their families, also her niece Christine Nord and Richard Welch, her new nephew who she raised. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hopson-Anspach mortuary on Oregon St. Services are scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery on River Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hoffman Hospice or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to give thanks to Hospice for the tender loving care that was given to us during a short period of care.
