Miller Services: Friday, Nov. 19, 1 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park for Elden L. Miller, 93, who passed away November 15, 2004. Bishop George Russell will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary. Elden was born on April 1, 1911 in Blackfoot, Idaho, where he met his loving wife, Erma Porter. They raised three children, Norman, Marilyn and Raymond in Bakersfield. He received his BA Degree in 1937 at Greely State Teachers College. Elden dedicated 42 years to teaching, serving most of the time as Music Director at Beardsley School. In 1970, he received the honor of being included in Outstanding Educators of America. Elden earned the Man of the Year Award in Education and was a founding director of the Kern County Honor Music Festival. In 2002 he received a Hall of Fame Award for Outstanding Achievement from the Kern County Music Educators Association. Elden was also active in the credit union movement, serving as a board member of the Kern Schools Federal Credit Union for four years. He was a member of Musicians Local 263 since 1938 and was Vice President for 12 of those years. He had an enthusiasm for life. He touched the hearts of all those he came in contact with, students, colleagues, friends and family. In addition to his generosity, he loved to travel, camp, fish and garden. Elden is preceded in death by his wife, Erma; sons, Norman, Raymond and Garth. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Joy and husband, Clive; daughters-in- law, Denise Miller and Doreen Dippler; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous friends.
