He married Helen Diane Burton in 1978 and they moved to Tehachapi in 1989, inspired by Dave’s love for trains and especially the natural beauty of the area. Before retiring in 2000 to assist his wife with their local bookkeeping practice, Dave worked for the Ford Motor Company for 25 years. An avid railfan and photographer for all of his adult life, Dave was known as a “trainjunky” to railfans across the world. He began publishing a Tehachapi railfan calendar in 2000 with his recently deceased partner, Ed Delvers. Dave was also an active member and treasurer of The Friends of the Tehachapi Depot. He is survived by his son, David Burton II and wife Denise and grandson Neal Patrick Burton, all currently residing in Texas; daughter, Carin Enovijas and husband Ernest, grandchildren Michael and Ruby Enovijas of Maui, Hawaii; sister, Martha Salyers and husband Dave; nieces Tammy and Carrie Salyers; grandnephews Jacob Brock and Jared Salyers; and niece, Kylie Salyers, all of San Diego. Leo Barron; niece Tyra and nephew Devon Burton, all from Arizona; his late sister’s three children and their families, Beverly Bartlett, John Rees and Curtis Moe. He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Helen, who died of cancer in December of 2002. Dave was blessed with many loving friends who will miss him dearly. He truly enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of the community and extended family that made Tehachapi his true dream home. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dave send donations to The Friends of the Tehachapi Depot, P.O. Box 2044, Tehachapi CA, 93581.
