Betty was born on Aug. 10, 1909, in Philadelphia, Pa. She was raised by a loving mother, Mary, who taught her values that lasted throughout her life. In 1933, she met and married the love of her life, Oscar Schmiel. They were married 63 years before he passed away in 1997. In the late 1970s, Betty and Oscar left their Pennsylvania home and moved to Tehachapi to be near their daughters. They became very active in their church and with the lives of their grandchildren. Betty actually attended two churches in Tehachapi, Mountain Bible Church and Christian Life Assembly. She was active in the "Energizers" group at Mountain Bible and also the Senior Group at Christian Life. Betty will be remembered as a gracious lady who loved the Lord. She left a wonderful legacy of strong faith and true devotion to all who knew her. Betty is survived by her son, Dave Schmiel and wife Adele of Norristown, Pa.; daughters, Betsy Conklin and husband Sam and Carol Weston and husband Ed, all of Tehachapi; grandchildren, Gary and Sonya Conklin, Brian and Dawn Conklin, Christy and Brent Boyd and Laurie and Matt Breneman; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kaylee and Elysse Conklin, Brooke, Jeffery and Andrew Boyd, Kevin Conklin and Andrew David Breneman; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery Westside, with visitation earlier that morning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at Wood Family Funeral Service. A memorial service is also scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. at Mountain Bible Church. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
