He was born in San Francisco on June 22, 1924 to Marion D. and Charlotte Story. Jack was the oldest son of 19 brothers and sisters. In 1930 the Story family moved from San Francisco to Bakersfield where Jack attended Beardsley Grammar School and Bakersfield High School. In November 6, 1942 he joined the U.S.M.C. and fought in Okinawa and other Pacific Islands. Jack discharged and married his wife, Ouida Ione Gillis in 1946. On October 29, 1950 he was recruited once again as a Corporal Sharpshooter and fought in the Korean War. After his discharge Jack remained with his wife and together raised their three children, Lynda, Arnold and Daniel. From which they have nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He loved to fish and hunt. Besides being a provider Jack was a businessman. He opened Storys Café on Hwy. 58 in Bakersfield in the 50s. He later endured the career as a painter in the 60s and opened a company named Independence Quality Painting & Decorating. He then sold out and went into farming on the Westside in the mid-70s until he retired in the 90s. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, November 22, 2004 from 5-8 p.m. at Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Service Chapel.
