Eleanor Koenig Schmoll, 87, died November 17, following a devastating stroke the early evening before. Eleanor had lived in Lamont, California for the last five years. She was born March 5, 1917, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. She was the baby of nine surviving brothers and sisters, and the only one who ever moved out of Marshfield. She came to Merced, California in 1942, and married Joe Schmoll, in 1943. She was the mother of J.J. (Jerry), born in 1944, an electrical inspector for the state of Washington, and John, born in 1957, the Pastor of Saint Augustine Catholic Church, in Lamont. Eleanor lived in Merced for about 57 years. During that time she was a bookkeeper for Ferrero Electric, Mer-Cal Electric and, in her retirement, for the Catholic Churches of Merced. All together, between Marshfield and Merced, she was a bookkeeper for over 64 years. A lifelong Roman Catholic, she had a special love for the seminarians and priests that were assigned to Merced over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Joe, on July 22, 1980, as well as her nine brothers and sisters who survived birth. She is survived by her two sons, J.J. and his wife, Susan, and Fr. John. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Jack and his wife, Joyce, and Tim. She was also the great-grandmother to Jack and Joyces two children, Sophia and August (Gus). The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony Valdez and the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Mercy Hospital (Bakersfield) Emergency Room, where they took such kindly care of Eleanor during the last hours of her life. The family would especially like to thank two very special people in Eleanors life: Alejandrina Gonzalez and Josefina Rodriguez. There were like daughters to her.
