In her youth she won several academic awards and charmed many with her grace and wit. One of those she charmed was the handsome Ray Polley who she married in 1938. The couple had two children, a son, Dennis, and a daughter, Janine. A loyal employee of the Bank of America for 25 years, she was proud of her connection to the institution. She was one of the first bank employees who spoke Basque which was a great service to both the bank and the local Basque community. In 1977 she chose to retire early to take care of her granddaughter, Erika. Jeannette spoke Basque before she ever spoke a word of English and was very proud of her Basque heritage. A lifelong member of the Kern County Basque Club, she served as secretary/ treasurer for the Club from 1962-1963. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray, who died in 1984. Jeannette is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Barbara; daughter and fiancé, Janine and Dennis; grandchildren, Erika and Sydney; and her brothers, Louie and Pete Sese. Never one for ceremony, Jeannette requested that no service be held for her. Instead, she wanted her life to be celebrated with laughter, music and a good bottle of wine. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hoffmann Hospice (5300 California Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93309) who offered Jeannette and her family care and comfort in her last days.
