If you had the opportunity to know May Wood, you found virtue, strength, 
generosity and integrity. She was born October 9, 1921 in Kansas City, MO. She 
graduated from Sumner High School in 1938 and furthered her education at The 
General Hospital #2 in Kansas City, graduating as a registered nurse in 1945. 

She loved to travel and had many friends in New York City and other parts of 
the United States. Throughout her career she worked in various hospitals and 
as a visiting nurse. She retired from the health care profession as a 
registered nurse with the Wyandotte County Health Department in 1981.

She relocated to Bakersfield after the death of her beloved husband Vernon in 
1993 to be closer to her daughters. She departed this life on Mon., November 
22, 2004 and leaves to cherish her memory (2) daughters: Eddye Ruth Perry 
(Garland) and Karen Rene Wood-Ingram (Donald), (4) grandchildren, (3) great-
grandchildren, a beloved sister-in-law Gloria Mallory, and a host of nieces, 
nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held for family & friends at the Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. 
Chapel today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Services will be held on Sat., Nov. 27, at 
9 a.m. in the Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. Chapel with internment to follow at 
Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery. Rev. Oscar Anthony will officiate.
