Vera left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on November 22, 2004. She was the fourth of eight children born into the James family. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death. Vera was educated in Delano schools and graduated from Delano High School with the Class of 1932 and has maintained a relationship with these classmates ever since. Upon graduation from high school she attended Junior College in Bakersfield for 3 semesters returning to the Delano area to care for her grandmother. Vera married Claude R. Hendricks, Sr. on October 6, 1940. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. She worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in Delano. She interrupted her career to raise two children, returning to the work force in 1955. She worked for Montgomery Ward for 16 years, retiring in 1976. Vera accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of nine and served Him faithfully for 81 years. When poor health made it impossible for her to attend church services she remained committed to her Lord by studying His word and praying for members of her family, friends and church family. Her husband, her daughter, Sarah Heinrichs and her husband, Doug, her son, Claude R. Hendricks, Jr. and his wife, Murrell, four grandchildren and their spouses and six great-grandchildren survive her. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 28, 2004 from 1-5 p.m. at the Kern River Family Mortuary, 1900 North Chester Avenue. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the North Heights Baptist Church, 3960 No. Chester Ave. on Monday, November 29, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. Kern River Family Mortuary Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
