Jerrold "Jerry" John Schaeffer

Jerrold "Jerry" John Schaeffer, 58, Piedmont, South Dakota, died Wednesday, 
November 24, 2004, at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center. 

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at 
Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota, with Pastor Darren 
Purdy officiating. Friends and family may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in 
Sturgis prior to leaving for the cemetery.

Jerry was born April 21, 1946 in Bakersfield, California to Eugene and Ruby 
(Schapansky) Schaeffer. At the age of four, his family moved to Scotland, SD, 
where they lived until 1955. He returned to the Bakersfield-LA area where he 
lived until 2000 when he moved to Piedmont.

Jerry served in the military, serving two terms in Vietnam. He was stationed 
aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Bennington. He enjoyed camping and loved 
playing cards and golf.

He is survived by three sons, John Scott Schaeffer, Jerry John Schaeffer, and 
Jeremy Jacob Schaeffer; one brother, Charles John Schaeffer, Bakersfield, CA; 
three sisters, Delores Zweifel, Piedmont, SD, Betty Byrom and Alice Green, 
Bakersfield; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established to Ft. Meade Hospice.
