Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2004. Millie was mother of four children, grandma to seven, and great-ma to 20. She was born in Fort Collins, Colorado; the youngest of ten siblings. She graduated from high school in Fort Collins. She moved to Pico, California, in 1933 and then moved to Bakersfield in January of 1936 at the time of her marriage to Dale Drake. She has been a Kern County resident for 68 years having resided in Arvin, Taft, and Bakersfield. Millie spent a great deal of her time rearing children and volunteering in many of their activities church, scouts, school, etc. After her children were well on their way toward being grown, Millie worked at the Arvin High School Cafeteria and then at the Bakersfield College Cafeteria, retiring from there in 1978. Upon that retirement, she worked at Fikes Finer Foods as a cook, leaving many of her famous recipes when she retired in 1986 at 74 years of age. Faith has always been a major part of Millies life. She always said she started going to church from the time she was just a few days old and has never stopped. She belonged to the First Baptist Church in Bakersfield (Truxtun Avenue) until she moved to Arvin in 1952. There she was a founding member of the Calvary Baptist Church. When she moved back to Bakersfield, she attended West Park Baptist Church and for many years has been a faithful member at Valley Baptist Church where she volunteered in the kitchen and was also a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. Her life was dedicated to God and Service. Music was an integral part of Millies life as well. Over many years she participated in musical events high school choir, Mother Singers, Messiah Chorus, church choir, and soloist for special occasions. She loved sewing, handwork and crafts. These were all joyful experiences for her.
