She died in Bakersfield on Saturday on her 91st birthday. In 1935, she traveled to Los Angeles, CA to marry Fred Rappleye in a double wedding ceremony along with his brother, Vel and bride, Pat. The couple resided in North Hollywood for 15 years raising their three children. Maline was a homemaker and active in school and church activities while Fred worked as an electrician. During World War II, she served as a neighborhood air raid warden. In 1950, they moved their family to Bakersfield and began playing golf. They played a number of years at Kern River before joining Rio Bravo Country Club. Maline was active in the womens group and enjoyed playing several days a week with friends and family. She had the distinction of having played in the Kern County Womens Amateur Golf Tournament for 43 consecutive years. Maline had the reputation of being a masterful seamstress. She was accomplished at making tailored suits, party formals, draperies, etc. She made all of her daughters clothing and most of her own. Being crafty, she created many of her own gifts. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and remained active in her church, holding several offices in the womens organizations prior to her illness. Maline was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Fred. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Rees Sloss and her husband, Rick, Larraine Hatcher Scott and her husband, Louis and her son, Fred G. Rappleye II and his wife, Barbara. She is also survived by grandchildren, Steve Hatcher and his wife, Shelley, Barbara Thornton and her husband, Steven, John Rees and his wife, Elizabeth, Linda Brown, Fred G. Rappleye III, Heath Rappleye and his wife, Sue, Shari Chafin and her husband, John and numerous great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Nina Black of Kanosh, Utah; brother-in-law, Melvin and his wife, Ruth of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister-in-law, Oleta Rappleye of Bakersfield and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Glenwood Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility for their kind help and care of their mother. Visitation will be held at Mish Funeral Home on Friday, December 3, from 4-8 p.m. and graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, December 4, at 11:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
