The Rev. Madeline K. Elsea will lead a Celebration of the Life of Mary Liz at 2:00 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 724 Niles Street. Mary was born Sept. 20, 1954, in Amarillo, Texas, and moved the following year with her family to Bakersfield. She attended Harding Elementary School, Compton Junior High School and East Bakersfield High School before transferring her senior year to the newly constructed Highland High School. She also attended Bakersfield College. Mary later worked as a data processor for the North Bakersfield Recreation District and Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield and later at Roseville Memorial Hospital in the Sacramento area. She also worked briefly for The Bakersfield Californian. Her special interests were working with computers and consulting with others in this area. Her passion was for animals, especially cats, many of which she rescued and adopted. She is survived by her loving son, Tyler Paul Garcia, 18, of Tustin, the dearest and most important person in her life. She was the daughter of Dr. John E. and Joan Witt of Bakersfield and the sister of John Robin Witt and wife, Suzanne of Rancho Murieta; Randall Cruse Witt and wife, Carolyn of Clovis; Forest Ross Witt and wife, Mary Kay of Van Nuys; nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by her former husband, John Paul Garcia of Tustin. The family appreciates the extraordinary efforts and support made by the staff of the Intensive Care Unit of Kern Medical Center.
