He was born and raised in Bakersfield. He attended Jefferson Elementary and Washington Jr. High Schools. He graduated in 1971 from East Bakersfield High School where he excelled in Math and Science. He attended Occidental College in Los Angeles and finished his studies at California State University, Bakersfield. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Biology which provided a valuable foundation for his future in Medicine. In 1976, he married Anne Lawrence and began his studies at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. He worked at Clinica Sierra in Lamont and at Martin Luther King Jr. Childrens Hospital after earning his Medical Doctorate. Ruben was most recently the Director of Childrens Lung Specialists. He was a Board Certified Pediatric Pulmonologist practicing in Las Vegas for the past 14 years. Besides a private practice and providing care through the Lied Pulmonary Clinic, he was involved in multiple clinical drug trials and research projects which greatly benefited the lives of children with cystic fibrosis, asthma, exercise induced broncho-spasms, and other respiratory problems throughout Nevada. Ruben received multiple awards, including Physician of the Year in Pediatrics. Ruben was a man of many loves. His center was his family and friends. Ruben loved medicine, soccer, golf, jazz and celebrations with those dear to him. He always took special interest in and personally touched every individual he encountered. Ruben lived his life with purpose, always adhering to his ethics and deep personal beliefs. He had the respect of all who knew him. Ruben will be greatly missed by his family, friends and patients. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador B. Diaz and Soledad Gallardo Diaz. He is survived by his wife, Anne and children: Michael, Sarah and Paul. He is also survived by his Loving Mom Julieta Diaz; sisters, Florence and Vera Diaz; and brothers, Sal and Arthur Diaz and wife, LaNore. He will be remembered fondly by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and close friends. A Rosary and Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2004, 7:00 p.m., San Clemente Mission, 1305 Water St., Bakersfield, CA 93305 A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, December 18, at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, Catholic Church, 7260 W.
