Mrs. Day died Saturday of injuries she received last month in a fall. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 17, 1922, Mrs. Day grew up in Detroit and attended business college upon graduating from high school. She began her career as a secretary for General Motors Corp. and later Chrysler Corp. After marrying and having two daughters, she and her family moved to California in 1957, where she resumed her career, retiring as the assistant placement director for the Claremont Graduate School. She enjoyed a part-time, post-retirement career as a Realtor when she and her husband, Kenneth Day, moved to North Fork, in the mountains east of Fresno. The couple moved to Bakersfield in 1989 to be closer to their family. Mrs. Day is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; mother and father, Charles and Marie Ellair; and sister, Dorothy Van Meerhaeghe. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Jack Hardisty, and her grandchildren, John and Deirdre Hardisty, all of Bakersfield; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Robert Pattillo of Dana Point; her stepdaughter, Pamela Pyke of Vista; and granddaughters, Kimberly Razo of San Diego, Nicole Ganieany of Montana and Krista Watson of Ohio. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Stephen Wing, associate pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
