At the age of 18, Walker moved to Bakersfield, CA with his parents where he began a long career with Southern Pacific Railroad. He retired in 1996 after 44 years of excellent service. Blackie (as he was called by his friends) loved getting together with his family for parties and BBQs and especially potlucks when they included lots of enchiladas and hot sauce. He would chat with you forever as long as the coffee kept flowing. In February 2004, his wife and children surprised him with a 70th birthday celebration. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, Walker Sr. and Mary Murrell. He leaves behind to love and miss him, his wife of 27 years, Dorothy; his children, Bill, Rick (Jan), Vicki (Ron) Lindley Sue Myers, Denise (Steve) Dial, Debbie (Jim) Hamilton, Robert (Donna), Walker III (Alecia Mayes), James (fiancée, Yuri Moncada), Timothy (Melanie), Diana, Dawanna, Chris (Danyle) Branson, and Krystal. He is also survived by his stepchildren whom he considered his own, Melinda Parker (fiancé, Brent Rouppet), and Michael (Linda) Martin. He is loved by 30 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as numerous extended family and friends. Visitation will be held at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave., on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004. Services will be Friday, Dec. 17th, at 10:00 a.m. at Mission Family with graveside to follow at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery. Just prior to Walkers death he stated, "If just one of my children quits smoking now, then my death will not be in vain." Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
