She was 78. Born in Phoenix, Polly grew up in Manhattan Beach, graduating from Redondo Beach High and attending USC where she was a member of Delta Gamma. At USC she met husband John Huggins. They had been devoted to each other for 55 years prior to his death. Pollys life was one of unselfish dedication to her family and her community. Many Bakersfield Associations benefited from the talents of this intelligent, vivacious, and tireless woman who was called by one colleague a leading volunteer in the community. Hours of volunteer time were spent at the Kern County Museum, Cunningham Art Gallery, Welfare Department, CALM, and on Boards of the United Way and Community Connection for Childcare. She served on the Grand Jury and, as a member of the Junior League, helped establish the Volunteer Center before becoming its first Executive Director. One of her dreams which came to fruition was to give non-profit organizations that did not have their own offices a place from which to work. St. Pauls Episcopal Parish also benefited from Pollys enthusiasm and organizational skills as she volunteered as a bookkeeper and taught Sunday School. An excellent bridge player, Polly enjoyed travel, the beach, USC athletics, and the Dodgers and Angels. She is survived by her four children, Christi Seminoff (Tom), Darcie Larman (Charles), Brad Huggins (Kathleen), Mark Huggins (Teresa Adams); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and her brother, Lyon Weisel. Polly approached her illness with the same quiet determination and strength with which she approached life, worrying more about its effect on others than on her. She has left an indelible mark on all of us. A memorial service is scheduled at St. Pauls Episcopal Parish on December 18, 2004. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Pauls Episcopal Parish, Optimal Hospice, or the Parkinsons Disease Foundation.
