Pastor Arthur Gafke will officiate. Ada was born in Clyde, North Dakota, in 1913 to George Franklin Stevens and Minnie Bradley. She was the third of eight children, Frieda, Fern, Glen, Jeanette, and Gordon preceded her in death, and surviving siblings, Gladys Earles (Alaska) and Art Stevens (Washington). As a child Ada developed her love for reading that continued throughout her life. As a young girl she became very involved in Camp Fire Girls, which was the foundation for her many homemaking skills. At the age of 16 she moved to Valley City, N.D. to attend college. She financed her education by working for room and board. That necessity led to a job working for the Taylor family farm and met her future husband, Leslie Taylor. At 18 she began her teaching career at an all-grades one-room school house. In 1936, Ada and Leslie were married in Aberdeen, South Dakota and moved to Cottonwood, Idaho where their first child, Richard, was born in 1938. At the age of two Dickie died of pneumonia. Ada continued her teaching career until 1941 when daughter, Kathleen Marie was born. Daughter, Pamela Fay followed in 1945. The family moved to Waitsburg, Washington for Less new job as Superintendent of Schools. Ada substituted whenever possible and led the local Camp Fire organization and volunteered as Superintendent of Sunday School for the Methodist Church. In 1951, the family moved to Arvin, California just prior to the birth of son, Herbert Leslie. Ada taught kindergarten for eight years at Sierra Vista in Arvin before moving to DiGeorgio School continuing her love for kindergarten and teaching art to multiple grade levels until her retirement in 1977 and concluding over 30 years of teaching. In 1959, Ada was Worthy Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star. She continued her involvement with the Camp Fire Girls, Faculty Wives Club and Superintendent of Sunday School for the Arvin Union Congregational Church. Ada and Les moved to Kern City (Bakersfield) to spend retirement time swimming, visiting, attending First United Methodist Church and playing bridge with friends of old and new (mostly playing bridge). Adas love for reading fostered a desire for travel and off they went to visit numerous countries around the globe. After Les's death in 1985, Ada increased her involvement in United Methodist Women group and served as District President and continued to play bridge! Ada moved to Fresno in 1997 as maintaining a house proved to be a greater task and a desire to be close to granddaughter, Leslie, as she completed her high school senior year activities. It was in Fresno where Ada went to join her adoring husband and baby son in the care of our heavenly Father. Ada will always be remembered in the hearts of all the children, whose lives she touched with love and praise. Her own children were so fortunate to have such a Mom! Ada is survived by her daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Jerry Colletto of Cool, CA; daughter, Pam and son-in-law, Chuck Allen of Fresno; son, Herb and daughter-in-law, Diana Taylor of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Steve Colletto (Novato), Chris Colletto (San Diego), Terry Lindsey (Sacramento); Leslie Lindsey (Sacramento); and their father, Ron Lindsey; Michael Allen and wife, Christy and son, Caleb; and sister-in-law, Virginia (Ginny) Service of North Carolina. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 21st at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. (10:00 a.m. through 8:30 p.m.). A family graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 22nd prior to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Adas name to Storyland, Roeding Park, 890 W.
