Long will be held Thursday, December 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be at Mish Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 22 from 4-8 p.m. John Q. Long was born on December 9, 1917 in Oakland, CA to Clarence C.C. and Alice Long. He passed away December 19, 2004 peacefully at home with his granddaughter, Gwenn by his side. John met his wife of 64 years, Lucile, at a Tip Topper party. Both were founding members of the California Tip Toppers, now a worldwide organization for tall people. They married on August 31, 1940. During WWII they worked for the Douglass aircraft factory in Long Beach before moving to Bakersfield, Ca in 1947. John Q. Long Realtors was started not long after. Their real estate business spanned more than fifty years and continues today. They traveled the world extensively with John photographing their many adventures, John was also a fantastic ballroom dancer. He and Lucile were members of the Smooth Dancers of Bakersfield for many years. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucile Long; 4 daughters, Patricia Long, Barbara Reyna, Gail Swift and Linda Christensen; 3 grandchildren, Gwenn Sanford, Arvind Sinha and Cynthia Khatib and his great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Harriet Bloomer of London, England. John will be truly missed by all who knew him. Life was never dull with John Quimby Long.
