In 1934, 1935 and 1936, he spent summers traveling on the M.S. Patterson to Herschel Island, Nome, and other Alaskan locales, working for the Northern Whaling and Trading Company. In the spring of 1937 he went to work for Associated Oil Co. (which later became Tidewater and then Getty Oil) in Ventura, retiring in 1975. Keith met Darleen Wangeman at a Rose Bowl game in 1941 but the two went their separate ways until they met again in Ventura just after WWII. Their strong love was evident all throughout their 58-year marriage, still holding hands, and the twinkle in his eye for Darleen never quit. Keith was an avid bowler all his life, and even at age 89, he averaged in the 170s; he bowled a 300 game in 1975. He was a great Dad, a wonderful husband, and a skilled carpenter who built several houses over the years, including one that he and his son, Frank built together. He taught us responsibility and gave us confidence in ourselves. He was always willing to teach, and his trust in us is one of the greatest gifts a father could ever give. Keith is survived by the love of his life, Darleen, and their two children, Frank Smith and wife, Rosie, and Nancy Green and husband, Fred; two granddaughters, Suzanne Smith and Marjory Small and husband, Jim, and their son, Winston, Keiths great-grandson. He will be missed so much, but because Keith placed his trust in Jesus Christ at Christmas 1992, we know that he is waiting in Heaven for us. We look forward to that day. Job asked a question in 14:14: If a man dies, will he live again? Jesus answered that question in John 11:25 and 26 by saying to Martha: I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and every one who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this? A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m. at RiverLakes Community Church, 4301 Calloway Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RiverLakes Community Church building fund, or to Hoffman Hospice. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
