Alfred was born on July 3, 1932 in Monolith to parents Pedro and Hilaria Hernandez. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Alfred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed horseback riding and hunting. He participated in a bowling league for many years. He loved any type of dancing, but especially country western dancing. Alfred was a professional woodcarver and a superintendent for construction for more than 30 years, working on projects such as Angel Stadium, Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim Busch Gardens and many hotels around the United States, being employed by Del-Webb Construction. He knew every facet of construction and his expertise was known by all. Alfred was an avid track runner who set Tehachapi High School records. He was a devout father of seven who was always there to support all of their school and sports activities. Alfred is survived by his wife, Emily Hernandez of Los Angeles; daughters, Mary Finger of Lakewood, Linda Huffman of Alpharetta, Ga., Dora Hernandez and Alice Hernandez, both of Long Beach, and Elizabeth Turner of Lakewood; sons, Richard Hernandez of Los Angeles and Alfred Hernandez of Rancho Palos Verdes; brothers, Pete Hernandez of Rosamond, Ernie Hernandez of Caliente and Charlie Hernandez of Tehachapi; and sisters, Lucilie Martinez of Carson City, Nev., Margaret Newlon and Helen Richard, both of Escondido, and Mary Chaidez of Bakersfield. He was preceded in death by his brother, Armando Hernandez. Father Joel Davadilla officiated at the service. Interment followed at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside.
