A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, at 7:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, with a visitation starting at 4:00 p.m. Bill was born in Rouseville, Pennsylvania to William Henry and Pauline Elizabeth Gannon. He was one of 14 kids. He joined the U.S. Army at age 17 where he served as a guard at Sugamo Prison in Japan. After his discharge, he moved to Bakersfield where he met and married Margaret Sampson. Bill and Margaret raised 4 kids in Bakersfield, where they resided. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 12 years. He then worked for the Kern County Fire Department; until heart surgery forced him to retire after 14 years. He had achieved the rank of engineer when he retired. He was very active with the Kern Co. Fire Dept. Retirees, where he loved preparing food at their annual BBQs. He was a lifetime member of the Kern Co. Employees Association. He was also a member of the Sugamo Prison Reunion Association. Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pauline, his brothers, Harold and Alvin, and his sisters, Germaine, Cornilia, Ermine, and Monica. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his daughters and their husbands, Patsy and Jack Rodgers, Catherine and Tim Kibbey, Christine and Jerry Conrad; his son, William Gannon Jr. and his wife, Lynn; 9 grandchildren, Michelle, Lori, Will, James, Michael, Jennifer, Danielle, Jason, and Rachel; 4 great- grandchildren, Alex, Mackenzie, Willy, and Isaiah; his sisters, Edith Steele, Dorothy Gilfillan, and Louise Thompson; his brothers, Larry, Pat, Paul, and John Gannon and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Alzheimers Care Unit at the Shafter Convalescent Hospital.
