Vaughn Aug. 22, 1928 Dec. 22, 2004 James E. Vaughn loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Born August 22, 1928 in Hearne, Texas, James went home to Heaven December 22, 2004 after a long and valiant struggle with many health problems. He was preceded in death by parents, Tom and Ola Vaughn. Also three brothers and sisters, Wally, Elton, Winston, Johnnie, Pauline and Bernice. James was born a twin, the other died at birth. He is survived by three sisters, Alice Weimer, Jean Foote both of Bakersfield and Helen Jones of Oakdale. Also numerous nieces and nephews. James is survived by his wife, Reba of 57 years; sons, Jimmie of Atlanta and Mike and Kent of Bakersfield. He leaves behind eight granddaughters, three grandsons and two great-grandsons. James was a barber for many years, having owned several barber shops in town. He was a lifelong Baptist and a member of the Coronado Baptist Church on Norris Road. James left behind many close friends and family and was especially close to his two daughters-in-law, Terri Vaughn, wife of son Mike, and JoBeth Vaughn, wife of son Jimmie. Viewing is scheduled on Monday, December 27, 2004 at Kern River Family Mortuary, 1900 N. Chester Ave. from 2-4 p.m. Funeral services are Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Coronado Baptist Church at 516 Norris Road. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd. immediately following the service. The family would like to offer special thanks to James longtime friend and physician Dr. Stephen Strategos and Kyle of Optimal Hospice Care who was invaluable to the family during this trying time.
