Mary was born in Orange, Virginia, and was the only child of Irving and Annabelle Rider, and both of her parents had died by the time she turned 15. She met and married the father of her three daughters, Norman Walters in 1946. During their 27-year marriage they lived in Ohio, New York, Arizona, Texas and Washington before settling in Bakersfield in 1957. Her passion in life was her family, she was very proud of her children, grandchildren and her great- grandchildren. She was a wonderful kind and generous mother, and was always someone you could rely on in any situation. She has accumulated numerous friends during her life, and all who know her will remember her beautiful smile, her wonderful sense of humor, and her passionate love of the Lord, and that she was always willing to help in anyway she could. She would often remark on how blessed she was, as an orphan, to have had such a wonderful large family and so many friends. She will be forever missed and forever loved. She was preceded in death by her parents Irving and Annabelle Rider, her Aunt Ida, the father of her children, Norman Walters, and many friends. Heaven is rejoicing on her home-coming. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her home-going, her daughters, Darlene Simpson, Marlene Griffith and her husband, Midge, Sharlene Walters; grandchildren, Tom Griffith, Eric Griffith and wife, Lisa; Lori Ledbetter and husband, Chris; Cody Walters; Brian Hawkins and wife, Rikki; Tammy, Travis and Tyson Simpson, Tabitha Dodson and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Tyler Griffith, Samantha and Alysia Griffith, Christian, Alisa and Nathaniel Ledbetter, Bryan and Scott Hawkins. The family feels so blessed and thankful to have had the great care and support of Dr. Arum Keni, the nurses and staff of Emmanuel Parkview Convalescent Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Odyssey Hospice, Hillcrest Memorial staff, as well as the many special people who have supported and helped us during this time. We are very grateful that God brought you into our lives. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
