"Clemie" Mier Lilburn May 15, 1908 December 22, 2004 Mary Clemence (Clemie) Lilburn, 96, passed away December 22, 2004. Clemie was born in Bakersfield, California on May 15, 1908 to Jose and Celine Mier. Preceded in death by her husband, Earl Lilburn, and brothers, Albert and Martin Mier, Clemie is survived by her brother, Faustino Mier, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and great-grand-nieces. Upon graduating from high school, Aunt Clemie entered employment with Kern County as secretary to the head librarian and supported her mother and three younger brothers. Clemie retired from the county after 45 years of service. Following retirement she took golf, piano, and organ lessons. Clemie was a woman ahead of her time. A favorite sport of hers was dove hunting with her husband Earl, brother Albert, nephew Joseph, and relative Tony Liguore. Clemie also learned how to drive a car at an early age, climbed Morro Rock, and camped throughout California. A known history buff, she loved to discuss the early days of Bakersfield and family tales, especially those involving old Basque relatives. Although never having children of her own, Clemie surrounded herself with family at every opportunity. Our beloved Aunt Clemie will be deeply missed by Joseph Mier, Judy Dean, Gary, Debbie and Claire Moles, Joey and Molly Mier, and Tim, Kathy, Julia and Celine Bohan. She will also be missed by Betty, Jill and Jeri Foley, Noni LeGar, Linda Smith and Judy Hartfield, Beverly Jerri and Teri Jones, and Thomas and Robert Holmes. Clemies strength and spirit will always be remembered. A special thank you to the caregivers of Alternative Care, including Lucy, Eloise, Delia, Maria and Carmen. You helped ease Clemies discomfort the last few years of her life. Services will be held Tuesday, December 28, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment at Union Cemetery.
