Born November 8, 1917, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ralph Gerald Jerry Nyberg and her sister Ruth Follett, and is survived by her sister, Lorna Bolin of St. James, Minnesota; three children, Kenneth Nyberg, Christine DeYoung and Carol Nyberg; six grandchildren Kjerstie Nyberg Bourne, Kaaren Nyberg, Beth DeYoung, Jess DeYoung, Jered Baker, and Jessie Baker; daughter-in-law, Janice L. Nyberg, who doted on her and was especially loved. Born and raised on a farm outside Elbow Lake, Minnesota, Kay was a remarkably talented and successful woman. Her 10th birthday present was her own team of draft horses, and after graduating high school and attending business college she worked as an accountant and comptroller through the war years while her husband was in the U.S. Army Air Corps overseas. She spent most of her life in Minnesota, but after raising three children, she returned to work as a successful realty broker in Danville, California, where she and her husband lived for 24 years prior to moving to Bakersfield in June, 2000. She resided at Columbus Estates, where she was befriended and tenderly cared for by Maria Gaytau and her associates, Claudia and Lisa. She was an excellent cook, fine seamstress, able pianist, terrific dancer, avid reader and an intensely competitive bridge player. She was a gracious and fun hostess, a devoted and spoiling mother, and the love of her husband who she missed terribly after his passing. She will be interred with him at Hillcrest Memorial Park, and deeply missed by all who loved her. At the time of her passing, a large and distinct halo surrounded the moon over Bakersfield. Chapel services will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4-8 p.m., also at Hillcrest.
