Chaplain Gary Bashor will officiate. Dennis was born in Michigan. At the age of 5 he moved with his family to Torrance, where he lived for the greatest part of his life. For the past 15 years, shortly after he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, he has lived in Bakersfield. His passing was brought on by complications from MS. After graduating from Torrance High School and attending El Camino College, he worked in the customer service department of Felker Co. in Torrance. But his greatest joy was music. At Torrance High, he was active in the band and choral groups. At El Camino, he was a member of the jazz band. And his love of music continued well beyond his school years playing in the Moravian Trombone Choir of Downey. He even marched in several Southern California parades with the Lumberjack Band. In his last few years, when MS made it difficult for him to get out, Dennis could still work up the strength to get out to a Cal State band concert or for a trip to the Fox to see Chicago perform. Dennis is survived by his parents, Bob and Betty; his brother and sister-in- law, Jim and Amy; his sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Bill Bartholomew, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and two grand-nieces. The family would like to deeply thank the many caregivers in Bakersfield who helped Dennis cope with MS in his last few years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made either to MS research and support organizations or to Mr. Hollands Opus Foundation (www.mhopus.org), which provides instruments to under served school music groups.
