Betty (Rockwood Moore La Brie) Capps

Betty Rockwood Moore La Brie Capps was born June 12, 1917, in Terre Haute, 
Indiana. She died December 23, 2004, in Bakersfield, CA. 

She graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana as a Registered 
Nurse. Although she did not practive nursing professionally, she maintained 
her interest and associations with the field throughout her life. She married 
Gerald Ogden Moore in 1940. Their three children, Betty Ann Moore of Reedley, 
CA, Nancy Moore Wright of Felton, CA, and Robert Earl Moore of Shingle 
Springs, CA survive her.

She participated actively in community life, first in Feasterville, 
Pennsylvania, then in Mexico City, Mexico and later in Sunnyvale and 
Cupertino, California. Her personal involvement with the welfare of one 
individual often brought her energy to the greater community. During the 1960s 
and 70s, her involvement with Friends Outside and other community groups led 
her to found Sunnyvale Community Services. She and Gerald became foster 
parents to Richard and Robert Betts, with whom she maintained a close 
relationship throughout her life. She was active in the church community 
including Sunnyvale Methodist Church. As her outreach grew, she found a 
meaningful connection with the mission of the Foundation for Global Community, 
working toward world peace.

Following Geralds death in 1970, she was employed by the Voluntary Action 
Center in Santa Clara, CA. She married. She assisted her second husband, 
Maurice F. La Brie, with his accounting practice in Cupertino, CA. When she 
was once again widowed, she forged a career in property management.

Betty fell in love with Jason (Bill) Capps on a trip to Cancun, Mexico. The 
romance took her to Bellevue, Washington to be with him. Later, he followed 
her to Bakersfield, CA where she built her final dream home, adjacent to her 
brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jane Rockwood. Betty and Bills marriage 
and the love and support of the extended Rockwood family allowed her to remain 
in her home until her death at the age of 89.

She is survived by her husband, Jason Capps; her sister, Eleanor Rockwood Hall 
of Loda, Illinois; her brother, Robert Rockwood; her three children, two 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
