Ashley Marie Young

Ashley Marie Young, born Lillian Marie Herndon on June 19, 1935 to Frank and 
Irene Herndon in St. Lewis, Missouri, passed away in her sleep on Christmas 
Eve from emphysema, surrounded by friends and loved ones. 

She is survived by her former husband, Donald O. Young and her daughter, 
Brandy I. Young and preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Scott 
Osborne and her beloved dog, Fergy. 

Perpetually young, Ashley was perhaps best known as founder and editor of the 
Kern County Rental Guide. She was active in the Bakersfield real estate 
community. She enjoyed researching genealogy, studying law and mentoring women 
to help them achieve self-fulfillment and independence. We will miss her 
spirit, grace and very sharp wit. While not religious, our dear friend was 
spiritual. She was proud of her home and self-sufficiency. It takes a moment 
to find a special person, an hour to enjoy them, a day to love them, but an 
entire life to fully appreciate them.

We will be celebrating her life at a party in her honor at her home on 
Saturday, January 1, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. Please bring memories and photos to 
share. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hoffmann Hospice in her 
name.
