At age 2, he moved to Colorado where he lived until September 1945. In 1945, the family moved to Santa Monica. February 1946, Clyde received his draft call notice and entered the Army Air Corp. Clyde married Isla Rae Hellesen on June 22, 1946 in Denver, Colo. Two months later he contracted polio while stationed at the Boca Raton Air Base in Florida where he was training for radar. He was permanently confined to a wheelchair but refused to let that disability keep him from achieving and enjoying life. He attended University of California, Los Angeles, graduating in January 1954. He worked as a purchasing agent and operations manager in electronics manufacturing for 30 years. Clyde and Isla moved from Northridge to Tehachapi in November 1993. They built a home in Stallion Springs where Clyde resided until his death. He attended and was a member of the Nazarene Church. Clyde is survived by his wife, Isla Rae Fox; son, Michael Fox of Stallion Springs; daughters, Susan Herrera of Bakersfield, Andrea Calkins of Lancaster and Melissa Goelz of Simi Valley; two grandsons and four granddaughters; brothers, Robert Fox and Donald Kelley, both of Mesa, Ariz.; and sister, Sandra King of Decatur, Ala. Memorial services were held at the Church of the Nazarene on Dec. 17 with Pastors Jerry Powers and Errol Chaillie conducting. A military tribute was presented by the local VFW, Chapter 5948.
