Deanas father fell in love with Deanas mother after hearing her sing in church, so when Deana was born he knew that she, too, would become a singer. It was that belief that compelled him to name her after the popular singer of the 30s and 40s, Deanna Durbin, and Deana did not disappoint him. At the age of seven she was participating in theater as well as singing in church choirs and performing solos. By the time she reached high school she was an integral part of Bakersfields East High School Choir, and nearly every production for the four years she attended, receiving numerous awards. After graduating from East High School in 1960 she attended Pacific Bible College where she continued in her love of music by traveling and performing throughout the U.S. in a trio of women known as Three-in-Accord. On September 28, 1964 Deana married her long time beau, Ray Shannon, and after Ray completed his tour of military duty they continued to remain in Bakersfield and raised their family. They had recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Through the years their love and dedication to one another has been an inspiration to many. Deana continued in Community Theater and became the Toast of the Town when she starred in the 1967 production of The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Even when she no longer participated in theater, she continued her music by participating in church choirs and musical groups for the rest of her life. The highlight of her musical career was touring Europe with the Vocal Octet His Praise in the mid 1990s. Deanas professional career included employment as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Willard B. Christiansen, and as a Skilled Nursing Hospital Administrator, serving the greater Bakersfield community for over 30 years. Most recently Deana was employed as a Senior Consultant with Sycamore Healthcare, traveling the state improving the healthcare delivery services to residents in numerous facilities. Doing what she felt very passionate about, Improving the quality of life for senior healthcare recipients. Deana loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She worshipped with her family at Calvary Bible Church for over 20 years. She and her husband had the joy of leading their son, Christian to the Lord when he was yet seven years old. Ray and Deana enjoyed a life full of love and laughter and were blessed with opportunities to travel to far away places, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. She loved cooking with her husband, and crafts projects with her two grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting art, reading good books, playing piano, working in her yard, and the company of her beloved cats. Her favorite place to run away was Cambria, California, always with her family in tow. This was her great escape to refresh and renew, and count the many blessings God had poured out upon her. Her family will also make this her final resting place as they release her into Gods care and love.
