Lazelle Nov. 13, 1921 Dec. 26, 2004 Services will be held Tuesday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. for Willis W. Lazelle, 83, of Bakersfield, who passed away December 26, 2004 in a Bakersfield hospital. Pastor Norm Slert will officiate and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends are invited to attend a luncheon following the service at the First Presbyterian Church, Westminster Hall, 17th and H Streets. Willis was born November 13, 1921 in Idaho Falls, Idaho and came to California at the age of five. He and his parents lived in Havalia, California until it was time for school at the age of six. He attended Franklin Elementary, Emerson Jr. High and graduated from Bakersfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1942-1946. He returned to Bakersfield and had various jobs before starting his career as an accountant. Willis joined Kiwanis in the early 1970s, where he had 38 years perfect attendance. He served as President of the Kern Club from 1977-1978 and was treasurer for many years. He was a Division Lt. Governor from 1988-89, and on the District Level served as Inner-Club Chairman, and the Advisory Committee for many years. In 1983, Kiwanis was the sponsoring club and he became Chairman for the Junior Miss Scholarship Program, never missing a rehearsal. This being his favorite project, he volunteered countless hours in all facets of the program. He was voted into the California State Junior Miss Hall of Fame. He has been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church since the 1950s, starting with the Young Adults Geneva Fellowship Group. He served on the Salvation Army Board of Directors for 30 years. He is survived by his loving companion of 48 years, Mary Lou Lee, and many other close friends. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Box 10352, Bakersfield, CA 93389. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary.
