Valero 1917 - 2004 Larry V. Valero (Dad) was born in Cospala, Mexico on March 8, 1917 and passed away on December 24, 2004 after a long illness. Dad immigrated to the United States at the age of six in order to be with his older brothers and sisters. Dad spent his formative years in the Los Angeles area and later moved to the central San Joaquin Valley where he lived and worked closely with all of his siblings. Dad was a product of a hard working, caring and supportive family. These traits influenced his life greatly to the very last days of his life. Dad proudly served his adopted country in World War II with valor and distinction as a member of the 163rd Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army. He participated as a combat infantryman in numerous battles and campaigns, which included action in the Southern Philippines and New Guinea. Dad was also the recipient of several decorations and citations, which included the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle. Dad was very proud to have served the United States as a citizen of Mexico and equally proud of earning his American citizenship immediately after the war. After the war Dad was involved in many business ventures in Clovis, Woodlake, Visalia, Delano and Bakersfield. Throughout his business life Dad was noted for his kind and generous manner. Business associates, friends, neighbors, family and total strangers felt his generosity. Dad loved people and always appreciated the good qualities of every person that he met. Dad is survived by his wife, Rose Valero of San Diego; his daughter, Yolanda Smith and her husband, Denny Smith of Phoenix, Arizona; his sons, Richard Valero of San Diego and Dr. Larry Alfonso Valero and his wife, Mary Valero of Bakersfield; his grandsons, Andrew Eric Valero of Bakersfield, Michael Pantoja of Phoenix, Arizona, David Valero of Bakersfield, Dr. Larry Andrew Valero and his wife, Sydney Valero of Knutsford, England; and his two great- grandchildren, Abraham and Hannah Valero of Knutsford, England. In addition, he is survived by many nephews and nieces. Dad was very fortunate to have spent the last three years of his life at the Veterans Home of California-Chula Vista. He was treated with the highest respect and was given excellent medical care. We would like to express our appreciation to all of the staff of the Veterans Home. We will always remember their professionalism, kindness and understanding when it came to our Dad. A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, California on Wednesday, January 5, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. Dad, we will forever miss your generosity, gentleness, soft voice, kindness and your unconditional love. Until we meet again, we love you and may you rest in peace. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
