He died in Maricopa, California on December 29, 2004. At his request, no services will be held. In 1948 the Clyde Browder family moved to Bakersfield, California and made it their permanent home. Jerald was a graduate of Bakersfield High School and earned his Associate of Science Degree at Bakersfield College. From 1954 to 1956, he served in the United States Navy traveling all over the world during his tour of duty. Upon his return home, Jerald went to work for the Kern County Sheriffs Department and was made detective after two years. After working there several years, Jerald left to go to work for the State of California Alcoholic Beverage Control and worked there until 1976. In the years following, he owned and operated several drive-in restaurants, all the while acquiring properties and making business investments. Jerald was the father of four fine sons, Mark Leland Browder, Steven William Browder, Gregory Keith Browder, and Jerald Leland Browder II. He was very proud of his sons and loved them very much, spending many happy hours on camping trips and spending time at the coast with them. He recently retired from the drive-in restaurant business and turned his attention to his large collections of cars. He loved working on these cars and showing them off to friends. The latest addition to his collection was a 1973 Mercedes Benz, of which he was very proud. Jerald had a wonderful sense of humor and was liked by all who knew him. He was optimistic and always looked on the bright side of life. He was known for his generosity and kindness to everyone. Jerald was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Jewel Browder; brother Keith Browder; and son Steven Browder. He is survived by his sons, Mark Browder of Bakersfield, Greg Browder and wife Sheri of West Virginia, and Jerald Browder II of Maricopa; sister Derinda Campbell of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Cassidy Browder, Gregory Browder, Katelyn Browder, and Thomas Browder. He also leaves to mourn him, Sylvia McCallister and Sherry Browder, and many nieces and nephews. We will miss our beloved Jerald, but memories will sustain us until we see him again someday.
