Bergen 1918 - 2004 Harry L. Bergen, a longtime resident of Kern County, died December 26, 2004 after a short illness. Harry was born in 1918, in Choteau, Oklahoma to Jacob R. and Gertrude Loewen Bergen. He moved to the Buttonwillow area with his parents in 1923 and attended Shafter High School, graduating in 1937. He worked for what became Exxon-Mobil Oil in Taft, San Ardo, Bakersfield, and Los Angeles, retiring in 1978. He married Thelma Bishop in 1947; she died in 1978. In 1986 he married Virginia Sparks Rominger; she died in 1993. He is survived by his daughter, Trudy Bergen and son-in-law, Don Keenan of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters, Elizabeth Peters of Edmonds, Washington, and Elcy Larson of Shafter; brother, Roland Bergen of Morro Bay; stepdaughter, Virginia Charlton of Tahoe City, California; and numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember Uncle Harry. A memorial will be held at a later date.
