Meske Jan. 10, 1930 Jan. 6, 2005 George B. Meske was raised in Bakersfield, attended KCHS, and later went on to earn a Business Degree from the University of Maryland. He joined the Air Force in 1951. He served combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. George was awarded numerous commendation medals and two medals for valor; the Bronze Star and RVN Fourragere for gallantry. He achieved the top enlisted rank of Chief Masters Sergeant and retired in 1974. George then worked for the CA Dept. of Agriculture as a manager in the grape and avocado inspection fields. In 1984, George was hired as president of Index Avocado Growers Cooperative in La Habra. He again retired in 1989 and moved to Florence, Oregon where he enjoyed many years fishing, hunting and crabbing. George returned to Bakersfield in 2002. He was a member of the Elks Club and Basque Club and supported veterans groups. George was preceded in death his father, Joseph Meske and brother, Wayne Meske. He is survived by his mother, Alta (Peg) Carlson; brother Dennis Carlson; sister, Joanne White; wife and life partner of 50 years, Helen (Errea) Meske; son, Mark Meske; grandchildren, Ashli and Chandler Meske; and several nieces, nephews and the Erra family.
