Meudell-Oildale Lodge #695 F.&A.M. will officiate and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Bruce was born to Odis E. and Laura L. Sprayberry on January 9, 1927, in Bakersfield. He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann Sprayberry; sisters, Pauline Dente and Peggy Kennedy and his brother, Marvin Sprayberry Sr. Survivors include his brother, Thomas O. Sprayberry and his wife, Joyce; brother-in-law, Frank Kennedy; sister-in-law, Pat Sprayberry and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Navy twice. He proudly served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He began his railroad career with Southern Pacific, working on steam engines, and ended as an Amtrak Engineer, fulfilling a long held dream. Upon his retirement, he and Mary Ann moved to Santa Maria, later relocating to Bakersfield. Their passion was owning, restoring and showing their 1947 Cadillac convertible, which appeared in the movie Tough Guys, staring Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. Bruce was affiliated with Cadillac LaSalle in Los Angeles, the Packard Association in Santa Maria and the Automobile Club of Bakersfield, serving as President in 1989. He had also been a member of the Glendale Elks for nine years. He became a Master Mason of the Eagle Rock Glassell Lodge #422. After moving to Bakersfield, Bruce, following in his Uncle Dewey Sprayberrys footsteps, joined the Meudell- Oildale Lodge #695 on November 29, 1995. Bruce was sworn in as a Master of his lodge. He was a Thirty-second degree Mason and belonged to the Kern County Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star #125 and Al Malaikah Temple. Bruce will be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, generosity and his love. We will miss his wonderful smile. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital or to Hoffmann Hospice. Visitation begins today at 12:00 noon at Greenlawn Mortuary.
